Indoor Training: Learning to Dribble with Shot

  • Age U6 - U13
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Pitch: Set up two parallel lanes. Per lane one cone marks the starting position. In front of it 2 tall cones at a distance of about 2 to 3 metres form a dribbling gate, at the end of the lane a second dribbling gate of 2 tall cones stands at the same distance. One indoor goal is occupied by a goalkeeper. If no goalkeeper is available, a player or the coach can go in goal.

Equipment: 2 cones, 8 tall cones, 1 goal, bibs in two colours, 1 ball per player.

Players: Two teams, which are assigned to the two lanes, plus one goalkeeper.

Procedure

  • The first player of each team dribbles through both tall cone gates and cuts the ball inside at the end towards the indoor goal.
  • Whoever has completed the course first may shoot at goal.
  • Whoever does not get a finish dribbles back to the starting position.

Scoring: Run as a team competition: which team scores more goals per side? About 5 minutes running time per side, then change sides.

Variations:

  • The players run a complete figure of eight through the tall cone gates with the ball.
  • With advanced players, extend the dribbling with additional tasks, for example swinging the ball between the feet, dragging with the sole backwards or sideways or dribbling with the weaker foot only.
  • Place the tall cones closer together or stagger them, so that both tall cones have to be dribbled around.
  • Leave the finish free at first and then restrict it, so that on the left side only the left foot and on the right side only the right foot may be used to shoot.

Note: Drill idea by Max Schönijahn. The set-up corresponds to the basic drill Indoor Training Learning to Dribble.

Tip

  • Pay attention to close ball control and many touches during the dribbling.
  • Pay attention to two-footedness when dribbling and when shooting at goal.
