Indoor Training: Passing in Groups

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: For each group, 2 cones are set up opposite one another approximately 10 metres apart, so 6 cones in total for 3 groups. The three lanes lie next to one another.

Equipment: 6 cones, 1 ball per group as well as several spare balls.

Players: The players are divided into 3 groups and assigned to the lanes. The first players stand opposite one another, the rest line up behind them. The first player of each group has a ball at the feet.

Procedure

  • The first player of each group plays a ground pass to the player opposite, runs to the opposite side and joins the queue there.
  • The partner controls the ball, plays it back to the starting position and also changes sides.
  • Keep playing until all players are back at their starting position.
  • On the running sections the players can complete running technique drills.

Scoring: Play as a team competition: which group manages the most passes or the most rounds in a set time?

Variations:

  • Allow one-touch passing only.
  • Control with the left foot and pass with the right foot.
  • Control with the right foot and pass with the left foot.
  • Play a double one-two with the partner each time.
  • Keep the ball in the air using only the inside of the instep or the full instep, so juggle it.

Note: Drill idea by Max Schönijahn.

Tip

  • Look for correct execution when passing.
  • Look for the use of both feet and keep motivating the players to pass with the weaker foot as well.
