Indoor Training: Passing Techniques in the Centre Circle

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: The centre circle of the hall. If it is too small for the size of the group, a large rectangle is marked out with cones instead.

Equipment: Several balls.

Players: Two groups. One half of the players stands with a ball outside the centre circle, the other half without a ball inside it.

Procedure

The players in the centre circle each run towards a team-mate outside the circle, receive a ground pass from that team-mate, lay the ball back and then run to the next team-mate. On the running routes they complete running technique drills. After a while the tasks and positions change.

Variations:

  • Play a double one-two with the team-mate.
  • Take the ball with the first touch and play it on to another free player without a ball.
  • Play it as a handover: the outside player passes inside, the inside player dribbles towards that player and hands the ball over. The outside player then dribbles inside and looks for the next player to pass to.
  • The players in the middle also have a ball and throw it to the outside as soon as they have received a pass.

Note: This format can be used flexibly as a warm-up and combined with “Indoor Training: Ball Techniques in the Centre Circle”. Drill idea by Max Schönijahn.

Tip

  • Look for precise passing.
  • Look for a clean first touch.
