Indoor Training: Small Box Dribbling

  • Age U6 - U13
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: Set up two parallel lanes. At the hall wall there is one vaulting box or small box per lane, alternatively a bench. Per lane one cone marks the starting position, four cones the slalom course and a further cone the target position for the finish.

Equipment: 12 cones, 2 vaulting or small boxes, bibs in two colours, 1 ball per player.

Players: Two teams, which are assigned to the two lanes and wait at the starting position with their balls.

Procedure

  • On the coach's whistle or call the first player of each team sets off from the starting position dribbling through the slalom course.
  • At the target position that player passes against the box.
  • Then the player takes the ball in their stride and dribbles back to the starting position at top speed.
  • After that the next player starts.

Scoring: Run as a team competition: which team completes the course fastest and hits the box most often? Whoever misses the box gets a minus point.

Variations:

  • Set different dribbling tasks.
  • Play without a ball at first, going through the slalom course forwards and backwards and touching the box.

Note: Drill idea by Max Schönijahn.

Tip

  • Pay attention to the execution, especially when dribbling and when striking the box.
  • Pay attention to speed and agility.
