Indoor Training: Target Competition

  • Age U6 - U13
  • Training Set Progression, Main point, End
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: Depending on the number of players, use a whole or half indoor pitch with goals, alternatively the hall walls as the target. The width of the playing area is marked out with 3 cones per side.

Equipment: 6 cones, goals or hall walls as the target, bibs in two colours, 1 ball per player of the attacking team as well as spare balls at the side.

Players: Two teams, which stand facing each other in the two halves. In the attacking team every player has a ball. The coach stands at the side of the pitch.

Procedure

  • The attacking team tries to score as many hits as possible with its balls on the goal or the wall opposite.
  • The children should try out different techniques, that is, throwing, shooting and passing.
  • The opposing team may block the balls, with the hand, with the foot or with the head.
  • Once all the balls are used up, the players use the spare balls at the side or gradually fetch their own balls back.
  • After 10 minutes the right to attack changes.

Scoring: Every hit is worth one point. Play as a team competition: which team scores more hits on the goal or wall per technique in 10 minutes?

Variations:

  • Play as a chaos game in which both teams throw, shoot or pass their balls at the target opposite at the same time.
  • Allow all the techniques at the same time.
  • Play with different balls.
  • Play with only one ball, similar to dodgeball.
  • If no portable indoor goal is available, use only the hall walls or several foldable mini goals.

Note: Drill idea by Max Schönijahn.

Tip

  • In this game it is possible to lose track of the score. That is part of the game and not a problem.
