Indoor Training: Target Throw as a Team Competition

  • Age U6 - U13
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Pitch: Set up two lanes side by side. In each lane there is a tall cone as a starting position, followed by a slalom course of 4 cones. At the end of the lane lies a hoop with small balls, behind it stands a box or a basket as the target.

Equipment: 2 tall cones, 8 cones, 2 hoops, 2 boxes or baskets, six to eight small balls per hoop such as table tennis balls, tennis balls or mini footballs, bibs in two colours.

Players: Two teams, which are assigned to the two lanes.

Procedure

  • On the coach's starting signal the players run without a ball into the slalom course and go through it as quickly as possible.
  • At the end they take a small ball out of the hoop and throw it into the box or basket.
  • After a hit they sprint back to the starting position and tag the next player.
  • If a player misses, that player fetches the ball and puts it back into the hoop.

Scoring: Run it as a team competition: which team gets all the balls into the box or basket first?

Variations:

  • The players carry out various running technique drills in the slalom course.
  • The players go through the course backwards.
  • Use footballs instead of the small balls: the players chip the ball into the box or shoot it in with a drop kick or a volley.
  • If required, set up a bigger course with more obstacles.

Note: Drill idea by Max Schönijahn.

Tip

  • The game promotes mobility, ball control and concentration and is tailored to children.
  • Keep encouraging and motivating the players.
