Jumps + drop kick

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Set up a ring course as shown in the diagram. The goalkeeper stands behind the first ring; the goalkeeper coach (GC) with balls is approximately 16-20 metres away.

Procedure

The goalkeeper jumps through the rings at maximum speed without touching them. Then they receive a hard drop kick shot from the GC into their catching range. Alternative: The goalkeeper runs through the rings using skipping/high knees, followed by a volley shot or a bouncing shot from the goalkeeper coach.

Tip

- It is important that the rings are not touched. - Palms are open, do not make fists. - Run on the balls of the feet, not on the entire foot or the heels. - Short ground contact time. - High knees: The right leg is swung upward to the maximum angle position. The left (bent) arm also moves upward. The left leg is nearly straight. The player moves on the balls of the feet. When the right ball of the foot touches the ground, the same movement follows with the left. The upper body is upright. Short ground contact time, maximum speed. - Skipping on the full foot: Low leg amplitude. Rolling foot movement from toes over the balls of the feet to the heels. Arms are bent; the upper body leans slightly forward. - Just before the GC strikes the ball, the goalkeeper makes a small two-footed hop or a short step forward, spreads the arms to the sides, slightly bends at the knees, and stands on the balls of the feet. The feet point toward the coach and are about hip-width apart; the upper body leans slightly forward and the eyes track the ball. - The body must always be brought behind the ball during the save. - During the save, the goalkeeper must never fall backward. - 5 ring(s), 1 full-size goal(s)
