Lateral shuffle run + shot

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Set up a cone course as shown in the diagram. The goalkeeper stands on the goal line; the goalkeeper coach (GC) with balls is at the edge of the penalty area.

Procedure

The goalkeeper shuffles laterally from cone to cone, slightly crouching and touching each cone with the left hand when it is on the left and the right hand when on the right. Afterward, they receive a low shot from the GC placed 1-2 metres to either side. Intensity: 5-6 repetitions Alternative: The goalkeeper shuffles backward from cone to cone, touching each with the right or left hand. After completing this, they turn and receive a volley bouncing shot from the GC.

Tip

- Lateral shuffles forward/backward: Moving sideways, the legs are brought apart and together alternately in parallel; the arms swing in sync with the leg movement. - Just before the GC strikes the ball, the goalkeeper makes a small two-footed hop or a short step forward, spreads the arms to the sides, slightly bends at the knees, and stands on the balls of the feet. The feet point toward the coach and are about hip-width apart; the upper body leans slightly forward and the eyes track the ball. - The body must always be brought behind the ball during the save. - During the save, the goalkeeper must never fall backward, always forward. - Lateral offset jumps (skier jump/movement): With a slightly forward-leaning upper body, the player jumps sideways forward alternating between the right and left leg (right leg to the front right, left leg to the front left). It is important that the takeoff and landing are on the balls of the feet. The arms swing supportively. When the plant foot lands, the other leg is bent (no ground contact). The gaze is directed forward. - 6 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
