Linear Passing with Position Changes I

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

A square is set up using four cones. A player with a ball stands at each diagonally opposite cone.

Procedure

Both players first pass their ball vertically (deep/long) to the opposite cone and run immediately after the ball contact horizontally (wide) to the other cone to directly bounce the incoming pass from the teammate vertically back. Alternative: As a simplification, this exercise can be performed with receiving the ball before passing.

Tip

This exercise only works when the timing of the passes matches the position changes of the players. The goal is to develop a constant rhythm in the exercise flow. It must be ensured that passes are played with both feet. Precise passing is of enormous importance for successful football. Therefore, passing must be practised again and again. It should not be forgotten that incorrect execution must be corrected and the proper technique demonstrated. Other important points: - The plant foot should be placed 30 - 40 cm to the side of or level with the ball. - For the inside of the foot pass, the toe points upward, the ankle is firmly tensed, and the upper body leans slightly forward over the ball. - Stand on the balls of the feet, slightly raise the kicking foot, and strike the ball in the centre. Bring the body over the ball and do not lean backward (receiving the ball follows the same principle). - After striking the ball, follow through with the leg. - Pay attention to the arms! When passing with the right inside of the foot, the left arm goes to the right hip; when using the left inside of the foot, the right arm goes to the left hip! - For the instep pass, the ankle is extended, toes point to the ground, and the upper body leans slightly over the ball. - When playing the ball with the outside of the foot, the player can easily lean backward. - For the inside of the foot kick, the player moves laterally offset to the ball and the body goes into a tilted position. - 4 cones
