Main part II - type of play I - path of the back-four with 8 players

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

Eight players position themselves in two rows (four players per row) as shown in the diagram in one half of the field. Cones can be used to mark the playing positions. Player E has the ball.

Procedure

Player E starts with a pass to player A. He runs to meet the ball, stops it halfway and stays still. The other players in the blue line of four shift or move in, just as the shifting of the line of four was studied in the previous exercises (also see the red path in the diagram). The players B, C and D thereby move sideways to the right in order to protect the deep area. Subsequently A passes the ball back to E and A goes back to the basic formation. Player E plays the ball on sideways to player F. He passes to player B who comes likewise to the ball. Now the same running and passing sequence as before begins. The players A and C move 2-3 meters inwards and protect B (forming triangles). D moves likewise inwards to the right etc. When all 11 paths have been complete, the assignment of tasks is exchanged. Now the blue players pass the ball and the red players practice the shifting/paths of the back-four.

Tip

8 cones, - The path of the players to the ball and back as well as moving to the left and right.\n- Often players move inwards in a forward motion. Staggered depth should, however, be obtained and consequently the player must laterally move backwards.\n- First study the paths slowly. Later at a higher tempo. Then the passing ensues.\n- Speak with each other.\n- Neat, accurate passing game.\n
