Use cones to create a zone where 4 defenders position themselves. The other 2 defenders protect the goal.
The attacking team consists of 2 forwards in the final third and 2 midfielders.
The game starts with the midfielders of the attacking team (Red) in possession. Their aim is to pass to the forwards who attempt to score.
The midfielders of the defending team in the middle zone must prevent the opposing midfielders from passing to the forwards using intelligent positioning. If the ball gets through, the two defenders stop the forwards.
Provocation Rules:
If too many passes get through, force the attacking midfielders to touch the ball at least 3 times. This gives the defending midfielders more time to position themselves.
Force the attacking midfielders to pass the ball back and forth in the midfield at least X times. This helps the defending team practice shifting and pressuring.
Example Variation:
Place 3-4 cone goals behind the two attacking midfielders. This allows the defending midfielders to score goals and practice quick counter-passing forward upon regaining possession.
Coaching Points:
Ensure the correct midfielder applies pressure in the midfield.
Proper cover (middle attack = triangle / attack from the wings = central midfielder remains last man).
Shift and maintain compactness defensively.
