Four cones are used to mark a 30x25 metre square. Twelve players gather in the field and are numbered 1-12.
Players 1 and 7 form the starting positions and each have a ball. They begin passing in ascending numerical order
then Player 1 passes to 2, Player 2 passes to Player 3. Player 3 then passes to Player 4, etc. Simultaneously with Player 1, Player 7 begins. He passes in ascending order to Player 8, etc.
At the beginning, the exercise is performed with at least two touches per player (not direct). As the exercise progresses, it switches to direct passing (1 ball contact).
Alternative:
- Players 1, 5, and 9 each start with a ball (three balls total).
- The group size and the number of balls are variable. However, this increases the difficulty level.
There are various ways to play a pass:
- with the inside of the foot
- the instep
- the outside of the foot
- with the inside of the foot kick
- with curl (here a pass with a lot of spin is played)
Variation: The players have a maximum of 3 ball contacts and must process the incoming pass with one contact (receiving and first touch). Additionally, a quick change-of-direction movement must be visible and the ball must be passed sharply to the next teammate.
- Precise passing is of enormous importance for successful football. Therefore, passing must be practised again and again. It should not be forgotten that incorrect execution must be corrected and the proper technique demonstrated.
- The players need well-developed pass and start timing, as they must perform both ball control and ball distribution. This demands high concentration and constant eye contact with the passer and receiver.
- The players should repeatedly alert the receiver to the upcoming pass through verbal commands before playing it.
- The players should be constantly moving and not stay in the same area. This trains game flow, game awareness, and football intelligence.
