Offensive Throw-In Formatio - Throw-In from the Left Side

  • Training Set Main point

Setup

The exercise is practised on one half of the field toward one goal. Left midfielder E is placed at the sideline to take the throw-in. The balls are with him. The two forwards are positioned in the penalty area between the 6-yard box and the penalty spot at the same height. Right centre back C stands centrally and slightly set back between the two forwards. Left centre back B and right central midfielder G are placed at the level of the penalty area line, slightly to the left toward the arc of the penalty area. Right outside midfielder H is placed in the central area behind the penalty area and player F between the two fullbacks A and D, who stand at the level of the halfway line. Player/Position legend: Base formation GK = Goalkeeper A = left fullback B = left centre back C = right centre back D = right fullback E = left outside midfielder F = left central midfielder G = right central midfielder H = right outside midfielder I = left forward J = right forward

Procedure

As soon as E winds up for the throw-in, the players run to the positions indicated by the movement arrows. Forwards J and I cross. J runs toward the near post, I toward the far post. Player C runs toward the thrower E to flick on the throw-in. Centre back B runs to the middle of the 6-yard box and player G toward the far post. He also adjusts to player I, leaving him the space closer to the goal. Player H stays in the area behind and covers it or converts the throw-in with a direct volley or finishes any rebounds and layoffs from the penalty area. The two fullbacks A and D as well as midfielder F stay back and watch for counterattacks.
