Okocha + Outside-of-the-Foot Dribble

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point

Procedure

The player dribbles the ball. During the dribble, he wedges the ball between the front and back foot. The leg position is such that the front foot touches the ball with the heel and the back foot touches/wedges the ball with the inside. At the moment of contact with both feet, the ball is lightly pushed with the inside of the back foot onto the heel of the front foot. The heel is then driven upward in a quick, explosive motion. This causes the ball to be flung forward and upward after leaving the heel. The impulse must be strong enough that the ball flies over the player while running and lands in front of him. The player then controls the ball and continues the dribble with alternating jump touches using the outside of the foot. The player alternates using the right and left outside (twice each right and left).

Tip

Okocha trick technique: - Do not reduce running speed during execution. - The upper body is twisted at the hip during the ball flip (player looks over the shoulder backward-down toward the ball). - The ball must be brought under control immediately after the trick. Outside-of-the-foot technique: - The foot is tilted slightly outward and locked downward. - The ball is touched with the front outside and slightly the instep (maximum the outer three toes). The toes are pressed slightly downward. - The ball gets a slight spin. - Alternating upper body position between upright and leaning forward. - When receiving with the outside, the upper body is slightly rotated inward. The foot is also (slightly) rotated inward. The ankle is locked open.
