Open Reception Pass Shape

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

  • 5 cones
  • Each cone occupied by a player. At least 4 players positioned at the first cone.

Procedure

  • Variant 1: Player B moves 1.5 m to the left in an open position. Player A passes with an inside-foot pass to the open foot of B. B controls the ball and plays a targeted pass as an inside-foot pass to the open foot of C, who previously moves 1.5 m to the left. C passes to D, who then moves back to the right. D plays a one-two with E and E dribbles to the starting position. Each player moves to the next cone.
  • Variant 2: Player C moves 1.5 m to the left in an open position, Player A passes with a targeted inside-foot pass to the "far-side" foot of C. C controls and claps the ball into the space of B, who passes the ball to player D with a targeted inside-foot pass to the "far-side" foot of D. This clap goes to C. C passes to E. E claps the ball to D. D plays a one-two with E, and E runs with the ball to the starting position. Each player moves to the next cone.

Tip

Coaching Points:

  • Variant 1: When moving laterally from the cones, move only sideways, not backward. Play sharply to the front foot. Control with 1 touch so that ideally only 1 intermediate step is needed for the subsequent pass.
  • Variant 2: Delay briefly after the clap pass. As soon as the player is bypassed, they start at high speed. However, do not start before the pass to the next position, as it will result in a lateral pass.
