Opening Pass + Through Pass + Shot on Goal

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players

Setup

4 players (2 strikers and 2 midfielders or defenders) are positioned on the field as shown in the diagram. The two strikers stand 5-8 metres from the penalty area line. The two passers stand at the halfway line. A goalkeeper is in the goal; the remaining players line up in pairs behind players B and C.

Procedure

Player I passes the ball to player B and immediately runs diagonally into the penalty area, where he receives a through pass from player B into his run and shoots on goal or lays the ball across to the oncoming player J. Alternatively, passer B can also play the through pass to striker J.

Tip

- The strikers make crossing runs toward the near and far posts. - When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and switch positions explosively at sprint speed just before the crosser's kicking motion. - The crossing players/attackers must not start too early. - The lead-up movement of the pass receiver begins with the passer's kicking motion. - 1 small goal(s)
