Opening Passing Drill with a Follow-Up Action

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Pitch: Cones mark four starting positions: A at the centre circle, B and C on the right in midfield one behind the other and D centrally in front of the penalty area. A goal with a goalkeeper stands at one end.

Equipment: 4 cones, 1 goal and several balls.

Players: Players A, B, C and D at their cones; plus a goalkeeper. The balls are with Player A.

Procedure

  • Player A plays to Player C.
  • Player C plays to Player B and a one-two with this player.
  • Player C dribbles at speed to the goal line and crosses to Player D.
  • Then the positions change: Player A goes to B, Player B to C and Player C to D.

Variations:

  • Set players up on the other side as well in order to use both sides. In this case Player C joins the strikers on the left side and Player D joins the starting players for the left; in this way the players go through both sides at the same time.
  • Player A plays a one-two with Player B and then passes into the run of Player C.

Tip

  • Player A plays a firm pass into the front foot of Player C.
  • After the pass to Player B, Player C carries out an explosive change of pace.
  • Player C takes the one-two straight into the stride and dribbles at top speed towards the goal line.
  • Player D runs into the penalty area with the cross.
