Set up a playing field with 2 goals as shown in the diagram. Each goal has a goalkeeper. 2 teams (red and blue) of 5 players each are formed. 3 players per team are on the field; the other two are positioned one on each sideline.
Procedure
3v3 is played on 2 goals inside the field. The two outside players of each team may move freely along the sideline and may not be challenged by either the outside players or the field players of the other team. When they receive a pass from a teammate on the field, both players can either switch positions (the outside player becomes a field player) or the outside player stays on the sideline and serves as a passing outlet. The goalkeeper may also join the attacking/passing play. This creates a 6v3 + goalkeeper situation when in possession. The touch limit alternates as follows: 3 touches - 1 touch - 3 touches - 1 touch, and so on.
Tip
- This game format requires enormous running volume and game intelligence and is characterised by constant communication and interplay between both halves of the field. - The teams should be in constant motion. The players try to continuously offer themselves and be available as passing options for their teammates. - Triangles should be formed regularly and the goalkeeper and outside players should be used as passing outlets. - This game format trains short passing, playing in tight spaces, 1v1 defending, quick switches of play, and counter-attacks. - 6 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
