Pass with Shot on Goal After Sprint

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players

Setup

Set up a goal and two starting (A+B) and two orientation cones (I+II) as shown. The players distribute evenly with balls at the two starting cones placed to the right and left of the goal.

Procedure

Player A begins with a pass toward orientation cone II. At the moment of his backswing, player B starts a sprint to cone II to reach the ball before it passes the cone. Player B runs around the cone and shoots the ball on goal from the run. Then the next player from group B passes the ball toward cone I, where the next player from group A tries to shoot the ball on goal before it passes cone I. After each shot, the passing group alternates.

Tip

- Make sure that shooting with both right and left foot is trained. - Pay attention to correct body posture when shooting: upper body over the ball; plant foot approx. 30-40 cm offset to the side of the ball, foot pointing in the shooting direction; arms swing along; the arm closest to the kicking leg follows the leg's backswing motion, the other is brought forward; eyes are on the ball at the moment of the shot. - Different shooting techniques (inside-of-the-foot shot, instep shot, curling, etc.) can be practised (possibly on the coach's instruction). - To avoid delays and long waiting times, the next opening pass is played directly after the shot. - The passing players must develop very good timing for the pass speed, as the receiver must be able to reach the ball before the respective orientation cone. The same applies to the receiver. He must adjust his start timing and running speed to the ball's speed so that he reaches the ball before it has passed the cone. - 4 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
