Passing Combination

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Pitch: Set up 6 flat markers in two rows of 3 flat markers each. The distance between the rows is about 15 metres, one row is about 20 metres long, and the middle flat marker stands in the centre.

Equipment: 6 flat markers, 2 balls.

Players: The outer flat markers are occupied by two players each, and there is one ball at each of two diagonally opposite flat markers. Level with the middle flat markers, two players without a ball stand in the centre between the two rows. Depending on the size of the group and the level, the simpler second set-up can also be chosen.

Procedure

  • The passing sequence starts at the flat markers that are occupied by two players.
  • Play goes in a zigzag from the starting flat marker via one of the two central players on to the opposite row of flat markers and from there back again via the centre.
  • The passers each move on one position.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • Start at a calm tempo and build up gradually to firm, driven passes.
  • Before the pass the central players should drop off one or two steps and then move towards the ball.
  • Players standing on their toes react more quickly and accelerate away more explosively.
  • Demand clear communication between passer and receiver.
