Passing in a Square Variation III

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Set up a cone square. The starting position (player with ball) is double-occupied.

Procedure

The player with the ball starts the passing pattern with a pass (1) to the player standing vertically (deep) opposite. This player lets the ball bounce back and curves around the cone. The opening passer then runs toward the second pass and plays directly on the halfway point to the diagonally positioned player. This player in turn plays the ball to the player standing to his side (the player who previously curved around the cone), who comes toward the pass and now directly passes it on to the player diagonally from him, etc. A constantly repeating passing sequence develops: bounce pass + diagonal pass.

Tip

- The ball-expecting player starts his counter-movement simultaneously with the passer's backswing. - The wall passer must adjust his running speed to the pass speed. - Do not place the plant foot too far from the ball and make sure the players do not lean backward. - Pass timing and start timing are decisive. - Often the players run faster than they pass. - Demand pass sharpness and accuracy. - 4 cones
