Passing in Three Squares with Alternating Play Variation II
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetProgression, Main point
Number of Players10-15 players
Setup
Eight cones are used to build three adjacent squares. The three squares form the overall playing field (shown in light green). Each of the three squares marks a zone (1-3). The zone where the ball is located is occupied by six players. The middle zone (Field 2) is always occupied by two players. In Field 3 on the opposite side, there are two additional players. (1) Field 1 (2) Field 2 (3) Field 3
Procedure
The players act as pairs: (A+A) = Team Red (B+B) = Team Yellow (C+C) = Team Blue (D+D) = Team Grey (E+E) = Team Blue The players in Field 1 must play the ball through at least three stations. From the third successfully completed consecutive pass onward, the ball-possessing players can, as soon as possible, pass to the two players in Field 2. These two must each touch the ball once and pass it on to Field 3. The player who passes the ball across follows the passing path with his partner and the two chasers (C+C) and repeats the same exercise with the pair (E+E). The two chasers normally stay in their chaser position until they win the ball or until the ball-possessing players play a bad pass out of bounds. The defensive role should be switched after a maximum of 2 minutes. Position swap: The pair that plays the ball (A+A) switches with (D+D). The pair (D+D) plays keep-away with (E+E). The pair (C+C) runs over to the other square and tries to win the ball again. Alternative: - Free number of touches - Limited ball contacts (e.g., 1 - 3 touches)
Tip
- This passing game is very running-intensive and demands a high level of football intelligence. - High ball security and good combination play are the goals. - Do not place the plant foot too far from the ball and make sure the players do not lean backward. - Demand pass sharpness and accuracy. - Accuracy before speed. - Concentration must be maintained. - Anticipation, perception, reaction, movement and action speed with and without the ball are constantly demanded. - Quick transitioning from attack to defence across a middle zone and creating new game situations are the objectives of this passing pattern. - The playing zone constantly changes for the players, creating new situations. - 8 cones
