Passing in Three Stages

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Set up a passing station with 4 cones (see diagram). The starting cone is double/multi-occupied; the other cones have one player each. (1) Stage 1 (2) Stage 2 (3) Stage 3

Procedure

Stage 1: Player A begins the exercise with a low pass to Player B. Player B passes the ball directly to Player C, who also redirects it directly to Player D. Passing and running paths are identical (A to Cone II, B to Cone III, C to IV). Stage 2: Basically the same sequence as Stage 1, but the passing combination begins with a give-and-go between Player A and C; only then does the pass to Player B follow. Stage 3: The execution of Stage 3 matches the sequence of Stage 1; only the first pass differs, as it is played as a lofted ball from Player A to C. Alternative: - To start, play with two touches. - Always perform the passing sequence in the opposite direction as well.

Tip

- The ball-expecting player always takes a step back in a dynamic jumping motion and then takes a step toward the ball. - Play passes sharply, accurately, and low. - When letting the ball bounce, slightly raise the foot. - The lofted ball should be played so that the receiving player can redirect it directly. - 4 cones
