Passing through Opponents

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

Three boxes (each 10 x 10m) are set up next to one another using 8 cones, as shown.

Procedure

There are four player in each box. The players in the middle box try to block the passes played from the players in the outer boxes. Every player in the outer boxes has a ball. The players in the outer boxes try to pass the balls to the players in the outher outer box. If a player in the middle box blocks a pass, he can then come out of the middle zone and changes place with the player who pass the stray ball. Alternative: More than 12 players can take part. There are a several ways to pass the ball: - with the instep - with the 'laces' - with the outstep - with the ball of the foot - the banana shot

Tip

8 cones, - The players in the middle box should be watched closely by the players in the outer boxes and the players in the outer boxes should communicate by calling or with eye contact with their partners in the other outer box.\n- The timing of the pass is decisive.\n- The standing foot should be 30-40cm to the side of the ball, in line with the ball.\n- When passing with the instep, the toes should point upwards, the ankle joint should be tensed and the upper body slightly leant over the ball.\n- Stand on the balls of your feet, the passing foot should be slightly raised to strike the ball in the middle. Bring your body over the ball and don\'t lean back. (Ball control is achieved using the same technique). \n- The foot should follow through after striking the ball.\n- Movement of the arms is important: When passing with the right instep the left arm should cross to the right hip; when passing with the left instep the right arm should cross to the left hip.\n- The player can lean back slightly when passing with the outstep.\n- When passing with the ball of the foot, the player approaches the ball diagonally with his body slightly side onwards to the ball.
