Passing to Beat the Opponent I

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Eight cones are used to build three squares, where each zone is the same size. The cones form the imaginary dividing lines between the respective fields.

Procedure

The two blue players pass the ball to each other in their corridor for as long as they wish. The goal is to pass the ball past the red player in the middle field to the blue teammate on the other side. If successful, the blue passer immediately follows his pass into the other field. There, the same game begins anew. The red player tries to intercept the passes with clever positioning, but may not enter the opponents' corridor. Motivation for the red player: The player in the middle sector is rotated after a set time. If the red player intercepts more passes than the blue players can deliver to their teammate, he wins. Alternative: For better visibility, larger cones can be used as outer markers.

Tip

It is recommended that the players pass with both feet. Initially, passes should be played low. Advanced players can also chip the ball over the opponent. Observe both the red player and the teammate in the opposite field. Precise passing is of enormous importance for successful football. Therefore, passing must be practised again and again. It should not be forgotten that incorrect execution must be corrected and the proper technique demonstrated. Other important points: - The plant foot should be placed 30 - 40 cm to the side of or level with the ball. - For the inside of the foot pass, the toe points upward, the ankle is firmly tensed, and the upper body leans slightly forward over the ball. - Stand on the balls of the feet, slightly raise the kicking foot, and strike the ball in the centre. Bring the body over the ball and do not lean backward (receiving the ball follows the same principle). - After striking the ball, follow through with the leg. - Pay attention to the arms! When passing with the right inside of the foot, the left arm goes to the right hip; when using the left inside of the foot, the right arm goes to the left hip! - For the instep pass, the ankle is extended, toes point to the ground, and the upper body leans slightly over the ball. - When playing the ball with the outside of the foot, the player can easily lean backward. - For the inside of the foot kick, the player moves laterally offset to the ball and the body goes into a tilted position. - 8 cones
