Passing Variation I

  • Age U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

Set up a cone hexagon according to the diagram. The starting position with ball is double-occupied; the remaining cones have one player each.

Procedure

Player A begins the exercise with a diagonal pass to Player C. C lets the ball bounce to Player B, who in turn plays a diagonal pass to Player D. Player D also plays a diagonal pass to Player F, who lets it bounce to Player E. The sequence is completed with a diagonal ball from E to G and is repeated following the same pattern. The players run to the next cone (clockwise) after each pass and take that position. The diagonal pass can be played as a low pass or as a lofted ball. Alternative: Direction change after four repetitions.

Tip

- The ball-expecting player always takes a step back in a dynamic jumping motion and then takes a step toward the ball. - Play passes sharply, accurately, and low. - When letting the ball bounce, slightly raise the foot. - If the diagonal pass is played as a lofted ball, make sure the receiving player can redirect it directly. This means an accurate, not too hard pass at maximum chest height is required. - Communicate with each other. - Timely pass timing and preparatory movement timing. - 6 cones
