Passing with Ball Control/Dribbling Variation I

  • Age U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players

Setup

Four cones are set up as specified. The starting cone with ball is double/multi-occupied; one player stands at each of Cones II + III.

Procedure

Player A opens the passing to Player B and immediately runs diagonally into the field while Player B immediately sprints toward Cone III and Player D occupies Cone Position II. Player A receives B's returned ball (receiving and first touch with one contact), runs one or two metres with the ball, and passes to C. A continues his diagonal running path and now receives the ball from C directly back to his foot. C's direct pass is the start signal for a fast run around Cone III back to the starting Cone I. A changes his running direction after receiving the ball and dribbles at top speed also back toward the starting cone.

Tip

First, practise the passing exercise slowly, then increase the passing tempo. The ball-expecting players always make a preparatory movement. A dynamic jump step sideways or backward, then moving toward the pass. The exercise is enormously running-intensive at fast execution speeds. - Under time pressure, a very demanding, game-like dribbling and passing game is required. - The ball-expecting players call for the ball with a verbal cue. - Pass timing and start timing are decisive. - Often the players run faster than they pass or vice versa. - Do not forget the running path. - Demand pass sharpness and accuracy. - Accuracy before speed. - Concentration must be maintained. - The players need some time to memorise the exercise sequence. - Good ball security and combination play are the goals. - Anticipation, perception, reaction, movement and action speed with and without the ball are constantly demanded. - Constantly demand maximum speed. - 4 cones
