Passing with Ball Reception/Control, Dribbling + 2v2 Situation
AgeU6 - U13, U14 - U19
Training SetMain point
Number of Players1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players
Setup
Set up the drill as shown in the diagram. Player distribution: B and C at the upper starting cone, player A at the lower cone. The balls are at the upper starting cone.
Procedure
Player B passes the ball through the cone gate to player D. D receives the ball at maximum speed and tries to dribble to the other side. D is free to choose which gate to dribble through. Players B + C try to prevent him. Player A joins in and a 2v2 situation develops. The player offers himself either on the left side or makes an overlapping run past player D. If players B or C win the ball, they may try to dribble to the other side. After the challenge is finished, the players move to the opposite side.
Tip
- When the passer begins the passing motion, that is the start signal for the player expecting the ball. - In this drill, start timing and ball control are of utmost importance. The passing player must also continue running immediately after the pass. - Defensive challenge (winning the ball is the top priority! Do not just kick the ball away.) - Position the body so the opponent is pushed away from goal toward the outside. Close down the path to the end line. Stand sideways, offer one side; lure the opponent where you want him; then push the body in between to win the ball. - Stand on the balls of the feet, not on the whole foot. - Try to reduce the opponent's speed. (This buys time for the other defenders in a real game.) - Cover for each other. - Offensive challenge When possible, approach the opponent at maximum speed. At slower speeds, try to use a body feint. - 5 cones
