Set up two mirror-image trapezoids according to the diagram. The starting positions are double/multi-occupied; the remaining positions have one player each. The players at the starting cone have a ball.
Procedure
Players A and E start the exercise simultaneously. Player A opens with a diagonal pass to Player C, who lets it bounce to Player B. Player B now plays a diagonal pass to D. D receives the ball and begins a speed dribble toward the starting position. Since the group with Players E through H has played the same passing sequence, the running paths of Players D and H meet on their way to the starting positions. Just before, these two ball-carrying players pass the balls to each other on verbal call, then line up at their starting position again. After each pass within the groups, the position changes by one cone clockwise. The diagonal ball can be played as a low pass or as a lofted ball.
Tip
- The ball-expecting player always takes a step back in a dynamic jumping motion and then takes a step toward the ball. - Play passes sharply, accurately, and low. - When letting the ball bounce, slightly raise the foot. - If the diagonal pass is played as a lofted ball, make sure the receiving player can redirect it directly. This means an accurate, not too hard pass at maximum chest height is required. - Make sure the sequences in both groups run as synchronously as possible so that the ball exchange happens at the right time. - Communicate with each other. - 8 cones
