Passing with Finishing - Variation IV

  • Age U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point

Setup

Three cones are set up as specified. The starting cones with balls are occupied by two or more players, two players stand at each middle cone, and one player is at the cone closest to the goal. A goalkeeper goes into the goal.

Procedure

Alternating between the left and right groups, the previously practised passing variations I + II are executed with a finishing shot. The passer decides which variation is played. However, the goalkeeper initiates the passing combination with a throw. Variation I: A (1) passes to C, while B moves 2-3 metres to the side when A opens play, to relay C's pass (2) directly to D (3). Player D tries to score. A runs to the middle cone and B takes player D's position. C stays at the middle cone. D lines up at the starting cone, etc. Variation II: Z begins with a pass (1) to X, whose initial run is toward player Z. Then X (2) lays the ball off into Z's run and immediately gets open after the layoff. Z passes (3) directly to Y, who plays directly (4) into X's run. X passes (5) to W. Player W tries to score. Z runs to the middle cone where Y stays. X positions himself at the lower cone by player W after his three runs. W lines up at the starting cone, etc. Alternative: - Shooting competition. Both teams count goals scored. - A second goal can be set up.

Tip

A varied, quick passing game with finishing through the centre is being practised. - Good ball security and combination play are the goals. - Demand pass sharpness and accuracy. - Accuracy before speed. - Concentration must be maintained. - Constantly demand communication. - Anticipation, perception, reaction, movement speed, and action speed with and without the ball are constantly demanded. - Practising automatisms, short passing, and varied combination play. - Score goals. - 6 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
