Passing with Overlapping II

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

Set up a box with one cone in the middle. Two of the cones are occupied by two plaers, the others with only one. There should be a ball at each cone. (1) Various 1 (2) Various 2

Procedure

Player A passes to B who moves the ball on to C with his first touch. C then passes for D to run on to, and B runs to C after his pass in order to overlap D.

After that D and B work together as a team and try to out play E with either variation 1 (a trick) or with variation 2 (a pass). G now passes to E who moves the ball onto C with his first touch.

C passes for A to run on to and E over laps. A and E now try to out play F with the same two variations as before. E finishes with the ball at G and E takes up the position formerly taken up by F.

Tip

- 5 cones.

- This drill is very intensive and tiring and requires a large amount of game intelligence.

- The players will require a certain amount of time to master the drill.

- A good touch and passing technique is essential.

- The standing leg is sometimes too far away from the ball and some players lean back too much.

- Pass and run timing is important

- Demand good strength of pass and pass precision.

- Pass precision is more important than pass speed.

- Concentration must be held at all times.

- The ability to make decisions fast to beat the oppostion (with or without team mates)

- Developing creativity together with rehearsing set sequences

- After the drill the players should take up the right positions.
