Set up cones as shown. The starting cone with the ball can be double/multiply occupied, with one player at each of the other cones. (1) Start (2) Dribbling (3) Shot on goal
Procedure
A simple one-touch passing sequence is started at the starting cone in the pentagon, followed by a vertical pass (through ball) (1 - 6) into the hexagon. The player expecting the pass controls the ball while turning and the same passing sequence follows (7 - 12) as before. The pass (13) to player A is this time a lateral (horizontal) pass. A controls the ball and starts a short speed dribble (14) before passing to B (15). B lets the ball bounce (16) directly into A's run, and A finishes with a shot on goal (17) from approx. 14 - 17 metres. After the action, each player moves one station/cone forward. Player A becomes the wall passer (previously player B) and player B (previously the wall passer) moves to the starting position.
Tip
First practise the passing drill slowly, then increase the passing tempo. The players expecting the ball always make a preparatory movement. A dynamic side step or backward hop, then move toward the pass. - The players need some time to memorise the drill sequence. - Ball control and good combination play are the objectives. - Demand passing sharpness and accuracy. - Accuracy before speed. - Concentration must be maintained. - Constantly demand communication among players. - Anticipation, awareness, reaction, movement speed, and action speed with and without the ball are constantly demanded. - Practising automatic movements. - 13 cones, 1 full-size goal(s)
