Passing with Two Balls and Defensive Pressure

  • Age U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

Four cones are set up as specified. One player is positioned at each cone. Two additional players take up positions in the field so that they form a triangle with the two respective players at the cones (see diagram). Players A and D have a ball.

Procedure

The exercise starts simultaneously in both triangles formed by the players with a give-and-go between Player A and C, or D and F. After his opening pass, A runs around the defensively attacking Player B and redirects C's pass directly to the opposite cone, where Player E (who must be standing there after the passing and running paths of Group D, E, and F) is now positioned. Player A then takes Player B's position, and B takes A's position. The same passing sequence takes place in the triangle with Players D, E, and F. In this group, Players D and E switch positions. Players C and F should be rotated regularly.

Tip

First, practise the passing exercise slowly, then increase the passing tempo. The ball-expecting players always make a preparatory movement. A dynamic jump step sideways or backward, then moving toward the pass. The exercise is enormously running-intensive at fast execution speeds. - Under time pressure (simulated by the 2 balls) and defensive pressure, a very demanding, game-like passing game is required. - The ball-expecting players call for the ball with a verbal cue. - Pass and start timing are decisive. - Often the players run faster than they pass and vice versa. - Do not forget the running path. - Demand pass sharpness and accuracy. - Accuracy before speed. - Concentration must be maintained. - This passing game is very running-intensive and demands a high level of football intelligence. - The players need some time to memorise the exercise sequence. - Good ball security and combination play are the goals. - Anticipation, perception, reaction, movement and action speed with and without the ball are constantly demanded. - 4 cones
