Passing with Various Passing and Running Lanes Variation I

  • Age U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players

Setup

Set up three cones as shown. The starting cone with the ball is double occupied, and the two players stand at each of the other cones as well.

Procedure

A (1) passes to C, while B moves two to three metres outward as A opens the play, to pass player C's (2) ball directly on to D (3). Now the same passing sequence follows in the opposite direction. D passes (4) to A, who has already run to the middle cone after his first pass, nand D also runs to the middle cone after his pass. A redirects (5) the ball into the run of player C, who has already moved to the side after pass 3, and now (6) passes to player F, etc. C follows his passing lane (6) to F. A takes B's position and D takes C's position. Then the same passing and running pattern as described, but now player F starts with the first pass.

Tip

- It is very running-intensive and requires a high level of football intelligence. - The players need some time to memorise the drill sequence. - Ball control and good combination play are the objectives. - Demand passing sharpness and accuracy. - Accuracy before speed. - Concentration must be maintained. - Constantly demand communication among players. - Anticipation, awareness, reaction, movement speed, and action speed with and without the ball are constantly demanded. - Practising automatic movements. - 3 cones
