Passing with Various Passing/Running Paths and Finishing

  • Age U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

• 4 cones
• 1 full-size goal

Set up the passing station with four cones as shown in the diagram. The starting cone can be occupied by multiple players.

Procedure

Player A plays a long pass (low pass or lofted ball possible) to Player B and immediately sprints after his ball. Player B now lets the ball bounce into A's run, who passes the ball on to Player C. Player C in turn plays a short pass to B. At the same moment, Player D starts from his cone toward the penalty area. Player B now passes the ball into Player D's run so that he can take a shot on goal from a central position, approximately 14 - 18 metres from goal. Afterward, Player D takes Player A's position; all other players rotate one station further.

Tip

First, practise the passing exercise slowly, then increase the passing tempo. The ball-expecting players always make a preparatory movement. A dynamic jump step sideways or backward, then moving toward the pass. The exercise is enormously running-intensive at fast execution speeds with only four players.

• Under time pressure, a very demanding, game-like passing game is required
• The ball-expecting players call for the ball with a verbal cue
• Pass timing and start timing are decisive
• Accuracy before speed
• Concentration must be maintained
• Play passes sharply, accurately, and low
• When letting the ball bounce, slightly raise the foot
