Procedure
The player starts dribbling and initiates a pirouette with the right foot. After spinning around his own axis and returning to the starting position, he starts the same movement in the opposite direction (starting with the left foot). After executing the pirouettes, the player slows down and pulls the ball with the sole behind the standing leg. He then turns the ankle inward so the ball is shielded by the foot, and plays the ball with the inside in the opposite running direction (backward), then starts a fast instep dribble. The player alternates using the right and left instep (twice each right and left). Technique sequence: 1 - Starting position right foot 2 - Turn to the left 3 - Take ball with left sole and continue turning left into the original facing direction 4 - Touch ball with right sole 5 - Switch to left sole 6 - 360-degree turn to the right while taking ball with right sole 7 - Stop ball with left sole and turn 180 degrees 8 - Pass ball with sole/inside and turn 180 degrees 9 - 12 Dribble forward with instep, starting with left, alternating right/left (each foot twice)
Tip
Pirouette technique: - Starting with the right foot, the player lifts the leg upward with the knee at a 90-degree angle. He then touches the ball with the right sole, turns 180 degrees to the left toward the left shoulder, and sets the right foot down to the left of the ball (back to the opponent). With the second ball touch, the ball is pulled backward with the left sole (left leg also angled as before) and another 180-degree turn is made. Now the player is back in the starting position. During this movement, the left leg is set down to the left of the ball and the ball is continued with the right outside of the foot to the right. American Fake technique: - When executing this technique with the right foot, the body rotation occurs over the left standing leg. - The upper body is slightly leaning forward at the start of the dribble and becomes somewhat more upright when stopping and pulling the ball back. - Do not lean backward. - The ankle for hooking with the inside must be locked open, with toes pointing toward the ground. - The ankle is turned 90 degrees inward. - The standing leg also moves to the side. - The foot shields the ball so the opponent cannot play it. - When executed, a 180-degree turn occurs followed by a dribble in the opposite running direction (backward). - Most players only use the sole or forget to turn the ankle and shield the ball. Instep technique: - The ankle must be locked open. - Bend the leg. - Touch the ball only very lightly (fine technique) with the upper body leaning forward. - Alternate looking at the ball and looking up; do not play with the inside or outside of the foot. - This technique improves fine technique, teaches locking the ankle open, and thereby develops better shooting technique for volleys, inside-of-the-foot shots, and full instep shots.
