Play Ball Up, Hook It Backward with the Inside of the Foot, and Short Sprint with Ball at Foot

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Each player has a ball. Set up a cone square or use open space.

Procedure

The player briefly juggles the ball and passes it into the air with the instep. Just before it touches the ground, the player plays it backward with the inside of the foot. In a quick, dynamic motion, the player turns in the opposite direction and takes the ball with the inside or outside of the foot in an explosive burst, dribbling a few metres at maximum speed. 1 - Juggle the ball 2 - Ball falls down, turn slightly left and turn ankle inward 3 - Play the ball backward with the right inside (hook) 4 - After a 90-degree left turn, take the ball with the left foot

Tip

- Extremely high coordinative demands. - Player should start the sprint on the balls of the feet. - Legs should not be too far apart. - Initially stand straight during the pass opening. If passing up with the right, the left standing leg then goes slightly to the left and the right leg is turned inward to the left. Now bring the ankle to a 45-degree angle. - The biggest challenge is reacting fast enough to get the playing leg behind the ball before it touches the ground. - 4 cones or more
