Playing Out from Defense with Crosses

Setup

  • 7 cones to mark positions
  • 3 goals

Procedure

  • The right CB (Center Back) plays a ball to the left CB.
  • The left CB hits a long ball over the goals to the striker, who lays it off to the CDM (Central Defensive Midfielder).
  • The CDM plays a long pass to the winger.
  • The midfielder receives the ball, dribbles to the end line, and crosses into the incoming striker.

Tip

Coaching Points i

  • CB: Take the ball diagonally forward once, take another look away from the ball, and play the ball with backspin and no effect to the striker.
  • Striker: Secure the ball once before laying it off to the CDM. Before the cross, move away from the ball and run diagonally into the penalty area with the cross.
  • CDM: Play the ball into the run of the winger.
