Pole course with lateral shuffle + shot on goal

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Set up a pole course as shown in the diagram. The goalkeeper stands on one side of the setup; the goalkeeper coach (GC) with balls is 15 metres away on the other side.

Procedure

The goalkeeper shuffles laterally through the poles. It is important that the exercise is performed cleanly -- no poles touched, short steps, narrow stance, yet maintaining high speed. When the goalkeeper comes to a stop after the last pole, a low shot from the GC comes toward the goal. Intensity: 5-7 repetitions.

Tip

- Lateral shuffles forward/backward: Moving sideways, the legs are brought apart and together alternately in parallel; the arms swing in sync with the leg movement. - As soon as the goalkeeper passes the last cone, the coach's shot comes. - Just before the GC strikes the ball, the goalkeeper makes a small two-footed hop or a short step forward, spreads the arms to the sides, slightly bends at the knees, and stands on the balls of the feet. The feet point toward the coach and are about hip-width apart; the upper body leans slightly forward and the eyes track the ball. - The body must always be brought behind the ball during the save. - During the save, the goalkeeper must never fall backward, always forward. - Lateral offset jumps (skier jump/movement): With a slightly forward-leaning upper body, the player jumps sideways forward alternating between the right and left leg (right leg to the front right, left leg to the front left). It is important that the takeoff and landing are on the balls of the feet. The arms swing supportively. When the plant foot lands, the other leg is bent (no ground contact). The gaze is directed forward. - 5 pole(s), 5 hurdle(s), 1 full-size goal(s)
