Pressing/Ball Control in 8 vs 6 + Goalkeeper

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point

Setup

14 field players + 1 goalkeeper take their positions according to the diagram on three-quarters of the field, and two goals are set up on both the goal line and the opposite end line. An 8-player team and a 7-player team are formed. The 8-player team's positions are assigned as follows: 2 forwards, one player each on the right and left flanks, two midfielders in the half positions, and behind them the two centre backs. The 7-player team positions the back four in line formation 35-45 m in front of their own goal, and two central midfielders in front. To mark the end line, a cone is placed on each sideline. The goalkeeper gets the ball.

Procedure

The outnumbered yellow-red team sprints from the starting position near the midfield line toward the 18-yard box and tries to establish width and depth staggering. After the goalkeeper's opening play, they must hold possession as long as possible. Yellow-red may only play toward the opponent's goal after at least 10 touches. The blue team's task is to play pressing, constantly create numerical advantages, and finish with few touches after winning the ball. After the team with numerical advantage gains possession and completes an attack, or when the outnumbered team successfully finishes an attack, the action is considered complete. The goalkeeper then gets the ball back. The 7-player team plays in a 1-4-2 formation and tries to maintain possession or score through quick ball circulation, switches of play, dribbling, and through balls. Both teams defend two full-size goals. The offside rule applies.

Tip

- The outnumbered team must move toward the goalkeeper fairly quickly and spread out wide and deep. - The goalkeeper holds an enormously important position as he constantly serves as a passing option. - Constant communication between players is necessary. - Triangles must constantly be formed by the goalkeeper and the two midfielders so that a pass into depth/centre is possible. - The team with numerical advantage must not give the opponent time or space to combine but must press quickly and aggressively. - After winning the ball, the attacking centre, back area, and flank must be occupied as quickly as possible. - The goal is to finish with a quick pass into the dangerous area or a dribble. - 2 cones, 2 full-size goal(s)
