Reaction Exercise with Elimination

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression
  • Number of Players 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

  • 4 cones to mark the playing area
  • 1 ball per player

Procedure

Each player takes a ball, and the players move freely while dribbling within a marked area (approximately 12x12 meters). After some time, the coach calls out a number, for example, "3". The players must try to quickly form groups of three, with no more or fewer players in a group than the coach announced.

Players who are left without a group are eliminated, receive penalty points, or must complete a small penalty task. Then the game continues.

Variations: The coach can request different dribbling variations during free movement, such as using only the right/left foot, the sole, the outside of the foot, or the instep to control the ball.

Another variation could be that the coach calls out a number for the group size and simultaneously states how many hands and feet within each group are allowed to touch the ground, requiring players to find creative solutions.

Example: The coach calls out "4" and "four hands, four feet." So, four players form each group, and to meet the "four hands, four feet" requirement, each player could, for instance, stand on one leg while simultaneously touching the ground with one hand.

Tip

Tip: This game can also be used effectively as an icebreaker, with players briefly introducing themselves within their groups.
