Reaction Sequence

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Pitch: Play takes place on one goal. The goalkeeper starts in front of one of the two posts, the two outfield players stand in front of it offset to the side.

Equipment: 1 goal, 3 balls.

Players: One goalkeeper and two outfield players, who have three balls between them.

Procedure

  • The goalkeeper lies on their back level with the goal area.
  • A player with a ball stands about 3 to 5 metres away and gives the signal on which the goalkeeper comes up into the sitting position with a sit-up.
  • As soon as the goalkeeper is up, the player shoots at the goal immediately.
  • After the goalkeeper has held the ball, the goalkeeper jumps up and sprints to the other goalpost.
  • While the goalkeeper is moving, the second player shoots a ball at the goal.
  • After the diving save the goalkeeper must get up again quickly in order to save the third ball as well.
  • Afterwards the players change positions and start the next round.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • Choose the tempo so that the goalkeeper can reach every ball but has to stretch to do so.
  • Change the direction regularly, so that the goalkeeper has to dive to the left and to the right.
  • By rolling out skilfully the goalkeeper gets back to the feet more quickly and increases the chances of reaching the third ball.
  • To roll out, the goalkeeper pulls the hands in front of the chest, the head towards the goal and the feet towards the pitch, tenses the half-extended legs and rolls out over the landing hands in the direction of the dive. In doing so, take the momentum along and get back to standing after 1 to 2 rolls.
