Reflex Ball

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19, Men's / Women's
  • Training Set End
  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players

Setup

Pitch: About 5 metres in front of a goal, 5 balls lie side by side in a row. 10 to 11 metres in front of the goal stands the shooter with another ball.

Equipment: 1 goal, 6 balls.

Players: One goalkeeper on the line and one shooter.

Procedure

  • The shooter tries to hit the balls lying ahead so that the ball that is hit and ideally also the ball that was shot fly towards the goal.
  • The goalkeeper stands on the line and tries to save the balls.
  • After every shot the ball that was shot is placed back on its starting position.
  • Play continues until all 5 balls have flown towards the goal.
  • The positions are then swapped.

Scoring: Count how many attempts the shooter needs and how many balls end up in the goal, with the ball that was shot always counting. The goals scored are subtracted from the number of attempts and the difference is credited to the goalkeeper. Whoever has more points at the end wins.

Variations:

  • If 3 players are available, 2 shooters take turns and play against each other while the goalkeeper takes the neutral role.

Note: Drill idea by Eddie Plickat.

Tip

  • The shooter should shoot precisely and at varying speeds in order to challenge the goalkeeper.
  • The goalkeeper should move actively and save the shots with different techniques.
