Right outer midfielder paths in 4-4-2

  • Training Set Progression, Main point

Setup

The player is positioned in his position on the field (1).

Procedure

When completing the drill: In this exercise the paths of the right-sided outer midfielder, or the right wing, when the opposition has possession and when he himself has possession are presented. Depending on the position of the ball when the opposition has possession, the path of the player depicts a diagonal line from his original position (1) via position 2 into an indented defensive position (3). The opposite running direction 3-->1 corresponds to the path when switching from the opposition having possession to his own team coming into possession of the ball.

Tip

- This exercise is a dry run. There is no tackling. Its main function is the learning of paths used in soccer.\n- The drill should be repeatedly trained as many times as possible (automation of movement sequences).\n- The focus lies solely on the right midfielder\'s path. He should be aware that in a similar situation during a game he must run this path without much time to react.\n- The individual positions (1-3) can also be marked out with cones. The players in this case run into the individual positions according to the shouts or balls played by the coach/teammates.\n- The paths should always be run at a high tempo.
