Set Play Down the Flank VI

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Main point
  • Number of Players 10-15 players, 16-22+ players

Setup

A goal is placed on one end of the field, with a goalkeeper inside. 8 field players are positioned according to the diagram on the field. On the left/right flank, two players stand 10-15 metres apart. The two forwards take their positions 10 metres apart at the edge of the penalty area. The remaining players line up in pairs behind players B and C. The balls are at the centre circle.

Procedure

The exercise begins with a diagonal ball from C to E, who lays it off directly to A. A plays the ball returned by E directly on to centre back B. B passes down the left flank into the run of player E. E converts the ball played by B by crossing it at full speed in front of the goal. Player A positions himself in the left half space. Simultaneously with the pass to the flank, the four players B, C, H, and D make runs toward the goal into the back area. Shortly before the cross by player E, the two forwards I and J start toward the goal. Their running paths cross at the 18-yard line. All players try to convert the cross.

Tip

- The forwards cross toward the near and far post. - When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser begins his delivery motion. - The crossing players/attackers must not start too early. - Ensure that the practised movement patterns lead to a quick, fluid overall movement. - The eyes should regularly be lifted from the ball (alternating glance toward the ball and forward). - The player expecting the pass makes a short decoy run in the opposite direction at the same time as the passer's delivery motion. - The pass should be played into the running path of the player expecting the ball. - The passer must observe the running path of the player expecting the ball. - 1 full-size goal(s)
