A goal with a goalkeeper is set up on each end of the field. 16 field players take their positions as shown in the diagram. One red and one blue player go to each the left/right wing. At 15-20 metres, a half-left and half-right midfielder position themselves. In attack, 10 metres from the 18-yard box, the two strikers stand 15 metres apart.
Procedure
Play begins in a 2-4-2 formation with two teams. The defensive team is initially passive and can become active later. The drill starts with a one-two from Player C with G. Centre back C plays a long ball to Striker J, who lays it off to Midfielder G. G passes to the right wing into Player H's run. H finishes G's ball by crossing it at full speed in front of the goal. Simultaneously with G's pass to H, the three players G, F, and E start toward the goal into the back space. Just before H's cross, the two strikers I and J start toward the goal. Their running paths cross at the 18-yard line. All players try to finish the cross. The set play is then run from the other side, and the attacking rights alternate between both teams.
Tip
- The strikers cross toward the near and far post. - When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser's backswing. - The crossing players and attackers must not start too early. - Ensure that the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a quick, fluid overall movement. - Eyes should regularly look up from the ball (alternating between looking at the ball and ahead). - The player expecting the pass makes a short counter-movement simultaneously with the passer's backswing. - The pass should be played into the running path of the player expecting the ball. - The passer must observe the running path of the player expecting the ball. - 2 full-size goal(s)
