A goal with a goalkeeper is set up on one end of the field. 4 field players take their positions as shown in the diagram. Two players go to the right wing and half-space, 10-12 metres apart. The two starting players take their positions at the centre spot and in the half-left midfield.
Procedure
The drill starts with a one-two from Player J with I. I plays a diagonal ball to H, who in turn plays a one-two with wide player D to the right wing into D's run. D finishes H's ball by crossing it at full speed in front of the goal. Just before D's cross, the two players I and J start toward the goal. Their running paths cross at the 18-yard line. Player H moves into the back space. All players try to finish the cross. The set play is then run from the other side.
Tip
- The ball-expecting Player I makes a counter-movement. - The receiver's initial movement begins with the passer's backswing. - Players I + J cross toward the near and far post. - When crossing, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser's backswing. - Ensure that the rehearsed movement patterns lead to a quick, fluid overall movement. - Constantly demand accuracy and speed (slow execution does not lead to game-like success in the long run). - Players should learn (similar to a game) to observe and apply what they observe. - Eyes should regularly look up from the ball (alternating between looking at the ball and ahead). - 1 full-size goal(s)
