A goal is set up on the end line of the field with a goalkeeper inside. 8 field players are positioned on the field as shown in the diagram. Two players are placed on each wing (left/right) at a distance of 10-15 metres from each other. The two forwards take up their positions 10 metres apart at the edge of the penalty area. The remaining players line up in pairs behind players B and C on the left and right. The balls are in the centre circle.
Procedure
Players B and A start with a one-two pass (1+2). Player B then passes the ball to the right forward J (3), who lays the ball off to the winger D (4). Player D plays, ideally first-time, a long ball to the left winger E (5), who receives the ball and dribbles toward the end line (6), from where he sends a cross into the penalty area (7). After the first pass, players B and C run straight toward the goal to occupy the central back space at the moment of the cross. As player E prepares to cross, the two forwards I and J make crossing runs and take up positions at the near and far post. At the same time, the two right wingers H and D join the attack by occupying the right back space to finish crosses that go beyond the centre. The second round then starts from the right side.
Tip
- As the passer begins the passing motion, the attacking player starts his run. - When making crossing runs, it is important that the players start moving after the second-to-last pass and explosively switch positions at sprint speed just before the crosser prepares to deliver the ball. - The crossing players/attackers must not start too early. - Make sure the practised movement patterns lead to a quick, fluid overall sequence. - Continuously demand accuracy and tempo (slow execution does not lead to game-like success in the long run). - Players should learn (similar to a real game) to observe and apply what they have observed. - Continuously correct mistakes to prevent the development of incorrect automatisms. - The eyes should regularly be lifted from the ball (alternating between looking at the ball and looking ahead). - The diagonal balls should be played as inside-of-the-foot passes and require pace and precision. - 1 full-size goal(s)
