Shooting Competition After Passing Relay

  • Age U6 - U13, U14 - U19
  • Training Set Progression, Main point

Setup

Double setup of two cone courses with a mini or handball goal each as shown in the diagram. Two groups are formed and split between the two stations. The balls are at starting position A and at the corresponding secondary station of Group B.

Procedure

Using Group A as an example: Player A plays a one-two with B. The returned ball is played diagonally into the run of C, who simultaneously starts from his cone toward the cone goal as A begins the passing motion. C receives the ball, goes into a short dribble, and shoots through the cone goal at the mini goal. Positions within both groups rotate after each action (A to B; B to C, etc.). Goals are counted per group: shooting competition.

Tip

- The receiver makes a short counter-movement as soon as the passer begins the backswing and then comes briefly toward the ball. - The pass and the subsequent layoff should be played to the strong foot. - The pass to C must be played centrally in front of the cone goal. - Close first touch and carry at full speed. - Short explosive dribble with close ball control. - Pay attention to proper body position when shooting: upper body over the ball; plant foot approx. 30-40 cm to the side of the ball, foot pointing in the direction of the shot; arms swing along; the arm closest to the shooting leg follows the leg's backswing, the other arm moves forward; eyes are on the ball at the moment of the shot. - Quick position changes to ensure a smooth flow. - 2 mini goal(s), 12 cones
