Shooting Drill with Ball Reception and Control

  • Age U6 - U13, Men's / Women's

  • Number of Players 1 - 5 players, 6 - 9 players, 10-15 players

Setup

  • 4 cones to set up positions as per the diagram.
  • Position B occupied by a single player and positions C and D by double. 2-6 players each with a ball at A.

Procedure

Player A throws to B. Player B controls the ball towards C and plays a lofted ball to C. Player C controls the high ball towards D and takes it forward. Player D runs towards the goal and receives a pass from C. D controls and takes the ball forward, feints, and shoots before the penalty area.

Tip

Coaching Points

  • Maintain a game-like pace
  • Directly control and take the ball in the direction of play
  • Quickly lower the ball
  • Play the lofted ball with backspin and without effect
  • Soften the touch on the ball control
